Let’s save the East Station Post Office from closure! We have gotten a lot of interest in saving the east side’s only post office, so we’re hoping to translate that into action. East siders have so many skills, so if you or someone you know does any of the following, we would love to hear from you!

• Blog designer/web designers
• Community organizers (see, Rush, that shit does come home in handy!)
• Spreadsheet/MS Office gurus
• Writers to word our online and print petitions
• Chatty Cathys to chat up our neighbors and get those signatures
• Baristas/coffee shoppers to post signs/place and collect petitions
• Bloggers/PR peeps/media/marketing/social media mavens
• Local employees/employers/residents to help spread the word
• Those fabulously fluent in legalese
• Photographers

Tomorrow we will head to the East Station to try to assess the exact reasons from the national office for why it is on the chopping block, understand the potential impacts of the closure on the employees, and get a snapshot of the business itself as it is the sole post office in East Austin. Apparently USPS Managers aren’t able to speak about closures, so we’ll see what we can learn… but you all know the power of your friendly stamp-buying/package-sending faces. So perk up those ears, please!

There is reason to be hopeful: Sam Bolen, the local USPS Spokesperson has said there will be opportunities for public input before any final decisions are made. Let’s make our voices heard! Sorry, don’t want to sound all cheerleadery-like.

p.s. The East Station could use a facelift here. Not asking for fake reviews because basically those wily Yelpers will hunt you down and burn you at the stake, but for those of you who adore Chops or Shaft, you could always share your good experiences too!
